Tuesday, December 5 is Colorado Gives Day – it’s a great time to sit down and reflect on the great organizations in our community that make Denver a great place to live and do business. Whether you give money to non-profit organizations once a year or monthly, we are lucky to have them here working for our community on a daily basis, and we are glad that Colorado Gives Day provides us with a chance to highlight some of our favorite organizations. We work with and support each of these organizations throughout the year, and would love it if our Tocabe friends and followers would consider supporting them on this great day for fundraising and celebrating the great work they do. Without further ado and in no particular order, here is our list:
The Denver Indian Center states that, “our mission is to empower our Native youth, families, and community through self-determination, cultural identity, and education.” The Denver Indian Center provides support and resources to Denver’s Native community. They are currently raising capital towards facility and grounds renovations that will allow them to better serve the community. “The American Indian College Fund invests in Native students and tribal college education to transform lives and communities.” The College Fund is a top rated charity and consistently is awarded top ratings by independent charity evaluators. As incredible as it is to believe, only 13.8% of Native Americans have a Bachelor’s Degree, but the American Indian College Fund is working towards raising that number by investing in Native students and tribal college education. On their website, the Stronghold Society describes their mission, “… to inspire confidence, creativity, hope, and ambition for the youth of Native communities and non-Native communities through empowerment, arts programs, skateboarding and athletic activities while encouraging youth to take action to live a healthy life in mind, body, and spirit; this is our LIVE LIFE CALL TO ACTION CAMPAIGN.” Stronghold Society has wonderful programs like skateboarding competitions, youth art gatherings, and print/media campaigns designed to empower and inspire native youth. You can donate to Stronghold Society from their website homepage.
“Café Cultura promotes unity and healing among Indigenous peoples through creative expression while empowering youth to find their voice, reclaim oral and written traditions, and become leaders in their communities.” Over the years, Tocabe has been proud to host several fun and memorable Cafe Cultura open mic events at our restaurants. They are currently working towards a goal of 100 monthly donors, could you be added to that list? Learn more and donate here: http://www.cafecultura.org/donate/
On their website, NARF asserts that, “since 1971, the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) has provided legal assistance to Indian tribes, organizations, and individuals nationwide who might otherwise have gone without adequate representation.” After more than 45 years working on behalf of tribes and individuals, NARF has become known as a respected expert on Indian Law and policy issues. You can donate to NARF on their Colorado Gives Day fundraising page: https://www.coloradogives.org/narf/overview
From their website, “DIFRC’s mission is to strengthen vulnerable American Indian and Alaska Native children and families through collaborative and culturally-responsive services.” American Indian and Alaska Native children are overrepresented in the child welfare system, and DIFRC was founded to address this issue. By introducing culturally-responsive services, they are filling a previously unmet need. Here is their Colorado Gives Day fundraising page: https://www.coloradogives.org/difrc/overview
We believe that each of these organizations are doing great work to support and empower the Native community right here in Denver and beyond. We hope you have learned a bit about some great organizations in the community. Whether you donate today, or choose to get involved in other ways, we are grateful for all of your support over the years. Happy Colorado Gives Day!
